hello fom adelaide. since i presume that the homeless around the world can allways find a meal to keep them selves alive, from my own experience a great way to spend certain sections of the day and nite would be to join a 12 STEP GROUP. u may not find yourself a home in the first few months but what you will find depending on your daily attendance is people who care that you exist.
members WILL GIVE YOU THEIR PHONE NUMBERS members will invite you into their midst ,members will talk to you, and members will speak kindly to you you dont need to be well dressed ,members have a duty to look out for you and help you in any way they are able, this is common will all step groups world wide .
when i was down and out in 1991 one of the first things i noticed when i walked onto a property that a meeting was on, were people who came up to me and welcomed me with a hand shake ,they didnt look at me with any type of knowing judgement ,they just welcomed me, they offered me a cuppa and would i like to get it ,they also offered to get it for me if i was shy, scarred or something else.from then on i continued to go ,where else was i going to find people like that there were people at the meetings who were homeless, there were office workers with 1.000 dollar suits on and everyone in between.
after a few months my state of mind started to change, i felt better in my self ,better than i had for years, i stuck around with members who wanted to make a difference in their own lives, and pass on to me what my hopes could be reached in my own life later on, one day at a time. so i lived with hope at last and was told that the people in my past that called me a no hoper ,were liars who were talking actually about them selves. so on a daily basis over the next few years my life got better not worse i still had struggles like everyone else but i learnt that, that was normal, so on and on i went i developed a sense of peace.REAL PEACE, that nobody can take away ive still got it now and its 2008. i now have painfull arthritis in my legs and 1 arm at 51 years of age but i will never forget those friendly people i met at the 12 STEP GROUP cheers peter
