When will Government take a firm hard and indeed coherent look at the deluge of homeless people and the real core issues of why in ever increasing numbers individuals present to services? Their deeper pathology and real needs are never explored, it’s get them in and get them out, give them a clothing or food voucher as a stop gap measure (hey I go home at five one more night in the park shouldn’t matter it will be ok in the morning). In a so called booming economy with a lot to share and the custodians of the charity dollar, in trust we give fail to turn the tide. Pragmatism and its matter of fact ethos that I see in a lot of services in my travels is cold comfort for an individual sleeping underneath the pages of a newspaper as a blanket waiting for the next wave as daylight breaks with their whitened knuckles and fading silence, waiting for the tide to turn.
