Good morning, I am a social work student trying to learn more about homeless people. My family and I were homeless for a very short period of time about 12 years ago. I know things have changed since then. Can you tell me about the discrimination, prejudices and any other obstacles you have to deal with. Also how has the new flood of homeless people affected you. Do you think this will help or hurt the fight to help the homeless? I would love to hear from you. I want to write my paper from your point of view not what a book states. Thanks in advance, Kay
Hello Kay, and welcome to the forums.
The best way to learn is just to surf around the different threads on this site and read. A lot of the posts are by people who are homeless, in various places. There are also lots of news items about homelessness.
If you come up with any specific questions, just ask here.
Cheers,
Rose.

Hi Kay :)
Glad that you have dropped by,
Im kinda thinking though that you should post your request for information in the appropiate (Sp?) area...
This space is where one says Hello!
I suggest you should repost your request for info in the Student and Academic area?
Can you tell me about the discrimination, prejudices and any other obstacles you have to deal with.
now where do we start...
how has the new flood of homeless people affected you
can you clarify what you mean by this
Ive put the kettle on....
Anyone got biccys?
Streetseen, Thank you for the information on where to post. The flood of homeless that I was talking about was the new homeless from New Orleans, I was wondering if you think this will help promote programs to help the homeless or hurt by taking away from the people that were already homeless. Thanks, Kay

Rightly so, there has been MUCH speculation about Bush's "response" to the natural disaster, or lack of it. It has left him looking incompetent (suprise, surprise), and his new found "concern" for the homeless is just another credability builder. That's my opinion anyway, I think Bush has no option but to save face and at least TRY to improve facilities in en event like this. Hopefully this will domino effect into many other issues with the US president...(but I wouldn't hold my breath with him)...so who knows. Maybe these catastrophic events are supposed to be some kind of social catalyst for the world to see...on a "bigger" scale. Many countries including the US and Australia dont percieve a problem unless they are actually faced with it.
Hope this helps,
Love and Light, K
Thank you, I think your right even though this was a hurricane that caused so many to become homeless they cannot be ignored the numbers are to high. They are opening buildings that have been vacant to house them and providing food and clothing , opening up jobs and giving free tuition at colleges how can they not also give this to the people that were already homeless. Just something to think about. Kay
