I notice on this website it says (btw, thanks for adding it):

"National statistics report the number of homeless kids at more than 1.5 million. More than 500 thousand are still under the age of 15, and some are as young as nine!"

How big is the population of the united states? It must be huge. We have our fair share of 9yr olds here on the streets in Australia but I think our national population is only 16 or so million.

Just a reflection

Hey, I know no one has replied to this topic since April, but maybe some more Austin people will join. My parents live in Austin, so I'll be down there for a month this Christmas. One place I'd like to visit is Church Under the Bridge, which is exactly what it sounds like. I'm interested to see what else is going on in Texas...

I am doing an article for an online magazine, about the homeless. I am trying to get in touch with Leslie Cochran. Does anyone know a way to help me do so?

Believe it or not - wikipedia has a suggestion: "Leslie hangs out around 6th Street, usually around 6th and Congress during business hours." Ask at the nearest coffee shop in that area.

That is a good idea, Dominic. I had read the she hangs out in that area. I had not thought to ask the local shopkeepers. Thank you for your response.

Leslie is NOT a she.
You can find him around 6th and Congress, or sometimes in South Austin, around Ben White Blvd.
Incidentally, I was surprised to see this forum. It is a great idea.
As a formerly homeless person who now works with homelss and other high risk people, it is great to see this-to make others aware of others plight.

Leslie is interesting, we chatted for a bit in a cafe', he's my friend's uncle or something haha :]

But just wondering, I live in Austin, I kinda wanted to talk to kids around here... ? If there are any on the forums, that is...

Did you make it to CUB last year? This year? I plan to be there tomorrow. I won't have gifts to pass out, as we did that on the 17th of December, but I do hope to start making some friends.

Hello All, I am working on a reseach presentation on the homeless community in Austin. I have found this website and it looks as if there are some very knowledgeable people on here. If anyone has any information they would like to give me please give me a shout. I am going to be interviewing people ranging from the advocates for homeless to people who do not think it should be allowed and the homeless themselves. If you know some good organizations I could contact, please let me know. Thanks

Hi krinkle,

Hope you're well, just wanted to say welcome to the forums! You're quite right, this thread doesn't seem to have any recent posts on it. These forums are based in Australia, so we do have many members who are Aussie, but many members internationally also, many from the UK and Americas. I'm not sure if there's anybody from Austin Texas on the forums at the moment, but we have had members from the USA dropping in. Perhaps you could check out the rest of the forums and see if there's a topic you're interested in or introduce yourself in new member introductions, and I guess that if anybody from Austin drops in they should see your post in this thread. If you'd like to post about any issues in Austin Texas go ahead, even if we're in a different country we're still interested in homelessness throughout the world, and that's part of the reasons for this forum, to share information about homeless issues and become more knowledgable.

I noticed at the end of your post you said that any help is appreciated, not sure if that's a signature, but is there anything that we could do to help you at the moment? I saw that your profile states you aren't currently homeless, just interested, so that's alright, but please do let us know if we can do something to help :) Hope I see you around.

Take care,
Sk8r Girl.

no not homeless, far from being homeless too... Just ran across this site doing some research.... I am putting together a business plan for a non-profit organization in Austin, wondering if there was already a message board that catered to homeless people and related topics on homelessness.

Does not look like there are, although this site is great and it is the closes thing I have found... keep up the great work!

Dallas Texas has a new facility called the Bridge. I was recently in Austin and visited the ARCH.
