I just read your post. If I were you I would hang on to your current situation. Shelter life can be rough, especially for women. Shelter men are always on the prowl and most of think that just because a woman is on the streets she is hooking. I got lucky! I ended up at the best shelter in the country, it is in Santa Barbara, California. The down side is that there are no jobs and the cost of living is outrageously high. It is a beautiful city though. I was in Chicago last December just passing thru and I still feel the cold.
One more thing...Most shelters require current ID's, state issued with photo, or a birth certificate and social security card. They also require a TB test and you may have to get one on your own before entering a shelter. Plus as someone stated most shelters will close their doors at 5 a.m. and open at 5 p.m.
