    Hi all,

We're running an article in our local newspaper with information about WHD and we are asking for donations toward our local non-profit organization to help with shelter, food and clothing, medical and transportation needs. We are also asking each of our local county cafe's to donate a portion of their coffee drinkers cost to our agency in which it will also help toward the homeless basic needs. Next we are putting up posters with the WHD supporters button. We are having a homecoming parade and plan to have buttons made up for supporters to where whether they give money or not. Thats a start anyway. Thanks for all the great ideas.

Thanks for being here! I have just started a thing called "The Homeless Project" which has a page on FB:
    http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Ho...9255732?v=wall
Everyone is welcome to check it out and to become a part of it. I am myself over the limit on 'groups' so can't join any more, but this is just a fan page and a simple 'LIKE' is all it takes here. Great things are happening in such a short time! I would love to be able to help spread the word about World Homeless Day and this group.

    Hi all,

I am in South Africa WHD is not a big deal to some poeple in this country. I wish the poeple in South Africa could be more aware of the suffering of homeless poeple and try to help. With enough public and business support we could change the world. We do not have to leave everything to the government he can only do so much.
Keep at it, one day we will succeed.

Hey Durban Beach Shelter! My heart just deflates hearing that people can be as callous as you experience. Keep putting the message 'out there'. There are people all over the world that feel the way you do. I think that's why we come here to commiserate. Good to hear your optimism.

Well I am new here, but seems a world homeless day is good, but it is just like raising your hand. It's what you do after the hand raising that matters. As someone pointed out, "a way to shed some light". I think it all helps.

As someone about to be homeless, though not experienced in homelessness or being homeless, I think the bigger issues are our systems which do not support people properly and induce people to not support one another. Bottom line you gotta get people to see and experience a better way.

I was interested in this when I first saw it here even though Nov when it is in US.

However, now I don't know what the goals are. If it is to get more donations and volunteers, then that is a dead-end street. In the US, all that has done is make emergency shelters permanent housing.

Given that this is a world-wide forum on a world-wide issue, why not do something involving the UN Declaration Of Human Rights, which includes housing? There is a way to make complaints to the UN about this and that seems to me to be a powerful way to make homelessness about justice and not just more charity, which weakens people.

Just a note that Tulsa, Oklahoma will be having an outreach event at Iron Gate at Trinity on Monday the 10th starting at 4:30pm. Iron Gate has also worked with local agencies and businesses for staff and individuals to wear shirts that day in honor of the homeless. We are unbelievably excited for this event and to bring awareness to those we at Iron Gate serve everyday of the year.

    Hey everyone,

I'm trying to plan something for world homeless day AND BEYOND!

I was hoping maybe someone could help provide some insight for me.

I live in China right now. I'm from Canada and plan on going home next year. I have decided that I want to travel from China to western Europe area in a van. But I don't want to do it without purpose.

Since being in China I have been very curious about the homeless people here. I want to know their story and why and how they got there. I want to interview these people.

I have decided that is want to travel the world in interview homeless people that I come across.

I want to know what you guys think of this. I also want to know if there is some sort of other homeless type initiative I should work towards. Maybe some theme.

Maybe you guys know of somewhere in the world that I should go that has a homeless problem (obviously India but who else) Or a place that has it all figured out! I know I'm not going to save the 100 million + homeless people in the world in the next year, but I would like to create some more awareness or something!

It really breaks my heart to see them there, especially with babies and no limbs (pretty much every homeless person in China).

    Look forward to your thoughts!

Hey Joe, Maybe we can talk and I can get some insight from you on my project to create more awareness for homelessness OR some other homeless direction.
