Thread: I will be homeless again soon

Default I will be homeless again soon

G'Day everyone, Been quite a while since I was last here.

Anyway, I've been living with my girlfriend and her family for a few years now and things aren't what they use to be. My girlfriend tells me she no longer wishes to be with me so it's time for me to move on.
I have my station wagon so I will load up my belongings and hit the road.
I'm currently living in Mildura Victoria but once I leave Mildura I'll head down to Lakes Entrance where I once lived.
Anyone else on here from Lakes Entrance or Bairnsdale?
    Cheers,
    Paul.

    Hi Paul.
Nope, not from there, but been there. It reads like you've got yourself sorted. At least this time of year the weather is mild. I've also noticed a large fishing industry in Lakes, a possible source of work?
    Best of luck mate.

Lakes is a real nice place so if I'm going to be homeless again I reckon that would be a perfect place for me as I know the place well having previously lived there. There aren't really any unsafe spots which is good. Only problem I've got so far is what to do with my belongings - I won't be able to sleep in my wagon with all my stuff in there too.

It's the same story as many I have been hearing over the last couple of weeks. People are becoming homeless again and then having to work out what to keep and what not to keep. It's one of the hardest things to do.

You get yourself off the streets and start getting belongings again then only to have something fail and end up having to get to a bare minimum.

I think a good idea would be for some of the homeless services to offer storage facilities in situations like this. Or does anyone have any other ideas?

    Good luck

A storage facility for homeless people would be an excellent thing. It would solve alot of problems and allow people such as myself to keep their belongings. One of the hardest parts of becoming homeless is having to get rid of things that mean alot to you so I'm trying my hardest to hold onto what I have (Especially the things my dad gave me before he passed away as they have sentimental value and cannot be replaced).
I'm looking for some solutions to my storage problems online while I can before I become homeless (Which isn't too far away now).

One thing I found today while packing up all of my belongings is a power invertor that my dad gave me....It plugs into the cigarette lighter in my car and will come in handy for charging my phone and powering my electric shaver.
I have the whole clothes washing thing worked out too but the one thing I don't know what to do about is how to have a shower. Anyone have any suggestions as to what I can do to have regular showers?

Now that's a damn good idea!!!!!!!. I had to sell everything I had except what would fit in the car which wasn't much.

It's olive barrels, you know those blue barrels with the screw top lid, water proof and air tight. Thats my storage mate, buried in a place I know and no one goes. But sort out what you really want and just stuff you are hanging on to. No one hoards mate unless you have a mental predisposition to hoard stuff.

Showers well, I just used a solar shower when being a gumnut, but I am mostly coastal now so use those, you can heat up water and put it in a solar shower if its cool or cloudy whether. tent it next to your wagon at night mate if you cant sleep in your wagon, you can get cheap arse tents for 10 bucks at some 2 dollar stores.

    Best of luck

    That is a fantastic idea,,,
BUT we would need to prove a NEED before the Govvy would fund it...
OR have to find someone who will organise the storage/money to do it....

I think the issue would be state by state....
I doubt any state would want to admit on records they have enough homeless, who plan to get back on their feet, that a storage system is needed.....

    Might be worth looking into...
I doubt many Homeless Services would have the space/requirements but that doesn't mean we cannot push for funding for such services...

Would have to have a time limit or continual contact policy....
So stuff isn't stored for years upon years for people who never bother coming back....

    But a good idea..

I thought I already responded to this, but anyway. Storage could also be in the form of a small lockable trailer, or one of those roof pods.

When I was homeless I would have had no idea how to get or pay for a small lockable trailer and didn't have room for a roof pod....
I don't even think I would have had the money to pay for a trailer....
