    Lightbulb Building a CalmUnity

the past few years i have bounced back and forth between rucksack wandering and building a homebase. this year, i have decided to establish myself and collect a community of like-minded individuals with a taste for change. many people in our house have been homeless to some degree or another, and over the past 6 months have managed to collect under one roof.

as an offshoot to the homeless how-to, i decided to create a blog about living a community lifestyle. it's still in it's beginning stages, but will be built as a resource for information and ideas about how to live comfortably, economically and successfully as a community. check it out, feedback is appreciated!

I'm diggin that idea man !!! Especially if you can get the right collective of people to make it happen with little to no problems. I always thought how powerful the homeless population would be if they worked together in such a way similar way....Right on!!!

Oh wow! I read the first paragraph of your homeless how to and already saw a great idea! Sharing paid storage! Of course! Get together with some one you trust to store stuff. Talk about keeping it simple!

    I like it!

Aww the blog is gone. I was really hoping to see what you had put together.

One of the guys I met was really into helping me out. He wanted to do something like what you are talking about. He has 25 acres near a small town that is in a land conservancy, so it would never be sold if I could get something going. I never could figure out how to draw the interest of my fellow travelers though. They would come out there for a few days/weeks, but miss the city and hitch back. Guess I'm an odd duck, because I loved digging in the soil and growing stuff. If I can ever figure out logistics, its still there waiting.

sorry farmhand, i had to delete the page due to personal conflict with a member of the house.. one who chose to leave, and claimed he was forced out. it's funny how things will come together so beautifully, and then one person with enough spite can become willing to spend all of their time and energy to destroy that beautiful thing.

i put the link back up so that you can check out what i had published so far, but as for the rest of what i had in the works, i don't think i will continue to publish to that page.

i have outlined different things that i wanted to cover, like going from solo to part of a community and the mindset that is required to do so, how to collaberate incomes to work as a unit to accomplish goals and acquire wants and needs, how to become more sustainable and self-sufficient.. all these kinds of things that i didn't even get to posting about yet.

i'm thinking of starting something new all together, or maybe i will continue with this one and include all of the drawbacks and conflicts as points from which others can learn.. because let's face it, where humans exist, so does conflict. the key is to direct the outcome of inevitable change to be a positive one. i have yet to figure out how to do exactly that in this particular situation, but considering the many issues that have been overcome thus far, in time we shall find a solution.

thanks for your interest, you inspired me to figure out a way around this without ditching the idea altogether. bless!

The above life style means a lot of trust and TRUST these days is hard to find. I've met a lot of people in my days and even put some to the test but I sadly many have failed.

it's been a while, and my journey through life after homelessness has been a challenging one. trust certainly is an important factor when it comes to living with others, and sometimes things don't work out the way we plan. in the last 6 months i have found myself once again rockin the community lifestyle, with a bit of a different twist to it. i posted a quick note to announce my return to the world of blogger, and to explain a bit about where i'm at now.
[Rest in Peace White House on the Corner]

besides living situation, i have been struggling with some health issues. i got sick, i gained weight and i became really depressed. i'm doing the best i can now to recover my health, and i started a blog journal about that as well. since writing my how-to i realized how much i enjoy sharing my experience online, and realized that it can be a motivator to read another's journey through challenging times. i know it has helped me, and i'm glad to return the favour. so, here's what i've been up to:

    my journey to better health:
    http://sagethrivechallenge.blogspot.ca/

    my gardening adventures:
    http://southernontariourbanpermaculture.blogspot.ca/

i also made a new post on the calmunity blog to get that one going again, and i have some cool gardening and city wide community projects coming up this spring that i'll share later on.

    take care <3

Well Sadie I am glad you are still keeping to your idea with of course some modifications and reworking. I do think it is a beautiful concept and I applaud you for having so much faith in the human species. I can't wait for planting time, it is almost here and me and the wife are looking forward to it this year. I think when it get's closer we need to start a thread that we can all give gardening tips and show pictures of our gardens or just shoot the breeze garden style!!!
