Can i apply for food stamps ''homeless'' online? if so how would i go about doing that. I live in coats,nc harnett,co.. also i have no car im broke there are no shelters near by. but i dont wanna hitchhike like ive done in the past. The police take that very serious around here. Another thing does anyone know if it's illegal to be homeless at any beaches in northcarolina? ive done alot of reseach but cannot come up with an answer. Thanks for your help!

look to see if the beaches close at night. if they do, it's illegal.

when i was in n.c. they were taking dune erosion very seriously. beach towns you might can do, but the police usually sweep the beaches with spotlights looking for drunks, kids screwing, homeless people, or whatever.

personally if i had nothing i'd head west, and did. it's alright, i mean there is food, but it's not comfortable. like the last meal where i am will be at 4:00 pm, after that you're on your own until morning. once a week there'll be a food pantry where you can grab a few things to squirrel away. you mentioned you've traveled so you probably know the deal. any big city is going to have more services for you, but also more problems.

when i was on the streets back east i stuck to the suburbs, you can't do it if you look too scruffy without getting heat from police, but if you look normalish you can get decent eats from dumpsters, then cruise uptown for food handouts or whatever. the biggest thing is having a place to dump your stuff so you aren't getting stopped and searched every five minutes.

after that, i'd be trying to find every crappy job i could. washing dishes, janitorial, going from shop to shop asking if i could shine their windows for a few bucks (you'd better practice this until you can actually shine a window well if you plan on asking for money, though), going to taco trucks to ask if there are any chores they need done (usually they can't leave the truck, or move it easily, so if they need more water or ice they'll need a runner). the more you go out and talk to people and let them know your situation, the more likely someone will say "actually, i do know someone who needs a fence painted..."

I'm not trying to derail your thread but why does it matter if the cops take it seriously? it's not illegal and cops will take it seriously and lie everywhere. Just know your rights and don't let them intimidate you into following their made up rules.

stay away from Virginia beach. too many thugs. I noticed a lot of us homeless. I stayed only for a few days cause of the atmosphere. I guess the obx would be nice - loved it there myself but I wasn't homeless then.

there was a hermit on the coast in SC back in the day that was like a local attraction. he was murdered btw.

you can go further south to Daytona/new smyrna in FL.

Each state has its own rules about food stamps and where or how to apply.However, no U.S. state can deny this benefit just because you are homeless, provided you are otherwise eligible. Most states now require young people to go to a work program to get stamps. Best of luck to you.[/FONT]

The job program is for pretty much anybody who isn't disabled. You have to go to a center (usually right there at the food stamp office, or nearby) and transform into a job-application machine. You have to apply for at least three jobs...I think it's per week. If you don't, you can lose benefits, even if you're otherwise eligible. Been there, done that...but wasn't homeless.
