Just out of curiosity, because I don't know much except what I've read on these forums. I would think it would be safer to have a group, even a small one, to stay with at night and watch out for each other etc., but I have no experience in homelessness and all of the people with that kind of experience whose posts I've read have seemed to not be part of any sort of 'gang' or anything. Can someone please tell me?
In my experience its best on my own way. The only way in group that works for me is squatting. And the group must be sober.

I did run with a small street crew early on and it was more trouble than it was worth. the trouble came from drugs, alcohol, PTSD, and violence. you can also get trapped in to the street crews lifestyle if you dont have a strong will about you.

Howya ginagreen
welcome to the forums

You will find you are amongst friends here who understand your situation and more importantly care.

Could I suggest you post a short post in the New members introductions section http://forums.homeless.org.au/forumdisplay.php?f=2 and possibly indicate whereabouts you are roughly located. There is a wealth of information here that may help you if we knew some basic details..

keep strong and take care

Default some tips

If your sleeping outside florida is your best bet in the winter. Choose a town that has a mission or some type of help. Also get a food stamp card. Travel light. If you dont have a tent the best place to sleep outside is behind buildings that have an overhang so you can keep dry and have a clean place to lie like a sidewalk or doorway. Most medical buildings close at 5pm. Try not to attract any attention going into your spot wait until after dark. Some cities in florida have laws aginst sleeping outside. out of sight out of mind. stay away from city parks at night.

Los Angeles has been having a more mild winter than Florida.

I'd like to read this post but the typing style is too annoying.

hahaha! that has make me laugh, an' two year old thread at that.
i dont have to smoke or drink if it would catch me later because i go crazy and make more trouble, i love drugs and sex but not goona save me.
i cannot stand not being equipped out in tha bush, i do stay at caravan parks in about town when i have a job until it lasts. even then one time my dad found me he couldnae believe i could live like that but that is all,
leather boots, good socks, long pants in sizes to fit over one another, bathing shorts, short sleeve long sleeve shirts vest and jumpers. breathable waterproof rain top and pants in xxxxl size to fit over multi layers. i have one good blanket double or triple up for colder nights and an emergency foil sheet for long wet, a good tarp and quick pop up tent. spare string and rope, tweezers, scissors, razor blade. small butane stove. can opener, plastic cuttlery, all my drink containers and bowls are soft or fruit drink bottles. kero lantern, newspaper, pot and pan to go on fire and stove, grill, bic lighter. torch with dynamo phone charger. plastic bags for my phone all the way up for my suitcase. soap and toothpaste. all the paperwork you supposed to keep???
mind you that is already a boot load packed. i always find a clear creek and some i drink straight, bucket. one very big issue is to dealing with the toilet.
ah! so long and thanks for all the fish
