it's the future of the web and all that jazz etc... hope it helps

Hi,

Under resources for the homeless I would like to include for Washington State,Seattle

Nickelsville: 206 450 5268
Take the bus number 21 from 1st and Pine. Get off at the Harbor Island terminal and walk one mile south on West Marginal Way. Camp is located at T107. All are welcome but sobriety is mandatory and they check for sex offenders (they have kids in camp).
www.nickelsvilleseattle.org

Screenings for all SHARE shelters, except the Lakeview and University Lutheran Women's Shelters and the Tent Cities, are held at the Josephinum, 1902 2nd Ave in downtown Seattle. No prior appointments or calls are needed to get into a shelter. Just show up at the Josephinum at the times listed below.

Screenings for night shelters are at 6 PM on Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and at 1 PM on Mondays and Thursdays.

Screenings for the Lakeview Women's shelter are held at the following times and locations:
Monday 1 PM Mary's Place (210 Dexter Ave. N.)
Wednesday 7 PM Women’s Referral Center (Angeline's, 2024 Third)
Friday 7 PM Women’s Referral Center (Angeline's, 2024 Third)

Screenings for the University Lutheran Women's shelter are held at the following times and locations:
Tuesday, 1 PM Mary's Place (210 Dexter Ave. N.)
Thursday, 10 AM Elizabeth Gregory Day Center (1604 NE 50th)
Saturday, 6 PM SHARE Office (1902 Second)

Screenings for the Bunkhouse Days shelter are at the Josephinum at 1 PM on Mondays and 7 AM on Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Tent Cities screen on location. There are no set times for the screenings. Just show up at the location.

Tent City3 is at All Saints Episcopal Church (5150 S. Cloverdale). Take the # 7 and get off at Cloverdale Street. Cross the street and walk up the hill. All Saints is on the left hand side of the road.

Tent City4 is at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Kirkland (10021 NE 124th Street), where it will remain until the end of October.

Like Nickelsville, SHARE shelters/Tent Cities are self managed. Sobriety is mandatory as well as participation (chores, security, meetings...). Website is www.sharewheel.org
TC3 checks for sex offenders.
TC4 check for sex offenders and warrants. They expect to see a valid ID

Great job,I love your forum

PS: because of its contract with the City, SHARE does not allow people with kids or pets (service animals are ok) but well behaved children and animals are welcome at Nickelsville. Both organizations do not discriminate based on race gender, religion etc...and does not shove any religion down people s throat.
Couples of any gender combination can stay together at both Tent Cities and Nickelsville. Some of our indoor shelters are coed but couple cannot sleep together (my wingnut boss insists on a distance of at least 18 inches between mats. I told him I was not gonna go around with a tape measurer like some 1950's high school principal at a dance LOL)

SHARE also operates a free storage lockers for people who are staying in the streets and have nowhere to leave their belongings. People in SHARE and at Nickelsville can leave their stuff and do not have to carry all their bags with them which is a big hardship. The location is 963 Mercer Street, near Westlake and behind the guitar center. It is open every day between 6 30 am and 8 30 am. There is no fee but participants are expected to work at the desk once a month (twice if they have 2 lockers) and attend one Sunday house meeting a month. As with SHARE shelters, Tent Cities and Nickelsville, sobriety is mandatory while at the site and also there is absolutely no loitering allowed (coming in before it opens). The Storage Lockers coordinator is kind of a stickler for rules and protocol enforcement and loitering is his pet peeve LOL

As far as Street Newspapers go, we have the award winning Real Change. They are always hiring vendors and there is no BS there. They don t ask tons of questions or for a valid id and they are very nice people
Here is the link to their website
http://www.realchangenews.org/
i hope it helps and anyone who find themselves new to Seattle and stranded is welcome to Pm me or email me at Ibukole@gmail.com for information

I would like to know if someone come give me some information on transitional housing for the single homeless women and mentally ill single homeless women in southern california. I was homeless since March, 2008 and been going to shelter to shelter which is not helping me at all. I apply for SSI, but have to wait until Social Security send me to their doctor. I need medical attention, but have to play the waiting game until I received my Medi-Cal, which will take about a one month or two, which means I can't be seen by a doctor yet, until I received my medical card. Can someone please give me some resource information on this?

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN.

Here in Maine, Once you are approved, the payment is retro-active. Of course then is finding a docter who will believe you have state medical. They can call to check it out. Think CA has some form of General Assistance, or Relief.

It is a program based upon NEED. It is for All people, with or without children. It can pay part of the rent. As I tell people in Maine if you are denied Check out the reasoning. As I have on my out going phone message machine, THEY LIE!

Another resource would be the media. They might do a human interest story. Or one fell through the cracks. Or they could say this is WHY People are pushed through gapping Gaps. The Homeless Crisis Hotline is at 1-800-438-3890. We are in Maine but Serve the entire US, and Canada

Default Services in Sydney, Australia

Here in Australia, the largest homeless population is in the capital, Sydney. The system of services, as it is at present, is set up so that all these services can be accessed through one phone number (which acts like a funnel... you ring them and they have a huge database of services that could help you and they refer you out to these services). A lot of services you cannot just ring up, you have to go through this phone number.

The number is:

Homeless Persons Information Service:

(free call) 1800 234 566
7 days a week: Monday to Sunday: 9am to 10pm
(closed each day between 1pm -2pm)

This service covers the whole of New South Wales. Whether you are single, with a partner, have kids, are pregnant, are male or female, are a youth or an adult, whatever circumstance, doesn't matter. They have contacts for crisis accommodation, intoxicated persons units, domestic violence stuff, everything! They also have contacts for services that help street workers, rape crisis people, transgendered services, transport services, everything. Also they have tonnes of information about where to get a free meal, food vans, places that you can have a hot shower, a hot meal and a bed for the night. They are great! Nice people on the phone, too. Very helpful and pleasant and they go out of their way to help you.

Here in Sydney, the definition is that if you are "homeless or at risk of homelessness" you can access these services. Even if you HAVE a home, but can't stay there for fear of violence, or whatever reason, you can access these services too. So if that's you.... ring now!!!

Pretty much all of these services are free too so if you haven't got an income its no problem.

That's all I can think of right now but I might add more later.

-- Eternity

Edit: I just remembered that i forgot to mention mental illness. They also have a huge range of contacts for people dealing with mental illness too.
