Yeh St Pats are good its a shame they dont have more accomodation for young adults they have plenty of boarding houses with an older permanent clientel. Check local papers and noticeboard down at dewsons south freo peope are often advertising for share accom roommates.

Hi everyone
I have just found this site and feel really excited about the stuff available. I've worked in the homelessness area since 1987, mostly with women and have recently started by PhD, looking at what helps women stay out of homelessness. I'd love to hear from anyone else accessing the site.

thats a hard 1 ay most i can think of our religious, salvation army, wesley mission, anglicare, st patricks, mercy care....hmmmm what about mission australia they have a youth homelessness sector and need volounteers and things for events like the winter sleepout....i also heard an advert recently saying The Smith Family were looking for volounteers, that could be an option the best thing to do would be to ring Volounteers Australia and ask em whats around and whetha they are from the religious or non religious sector. Good Luck Steph!

Default homelessness

Hiya everyone,

I've just found the site. I'm in the UK at the moment but hoping to go to WA in July to start a course in Community Services at TAFE hopefully working in a hostel/outreach environment. I've worked in hostels before and want to do my bit to help the homeless/drug addicts and ex residential care. Would love to hear from anyone already working in the field.

Trys

Welcome to the forums Chris.

If you are sincere about helping, you should register with one of the groups who provide services to homeless people, who will vet you and offer training before you actually work with people.

Default Contact number for people that can help

Hi all.
There is a homeless man that is kind of living in the wash house of the complex i live in. He comes and goes but is there alot. I was just wondering if anyone knew a contact phone number and/or email address I can call/email for someone to come help him. The area here is Scarborough, Perth, Western Australia. It's getting on to christmas and the weather can get really hot. He shouldn't have to live in a shed. It's all i can do to help him. I'm new to this area and country. I would hate for him to spend christmas by himself in a shed but wouldn't feel safe inviting him in. I think he may possibly have some sort of mental illness. But i'm not sure. Anyways if someone can help that would be lovely.

Hi there,

My name is Chris I coordinate the Drug ARM WA Street Van see www.drugarmwa.org.au/streetvan.htm we have a drug and alcohol focus but come across a lot of homeless people. We're on the streets 8pm till 1am ish Friday and Saturday night. We are a volunteer based program so people interested in being on the streets and helping at those times are welcome to join - see website for more details. We're seeing quite a lot of homeless people at the moment and the ussual providers are full most of the time so I'm keen to here about anything else that's happening to help.

Thanks
